What is involved in trading?

A group can trade carbon permits an much as they like throughout the year on the CarbonLimited website – buying and selling as they need. The Climate Club will have decided when trading is open, it may be open for groups to trade at all times or on specific trading days. By having specific trading days there is more focus on the event and there is more likely to be trading activity.

To make a trade the lead contact of a group will need to make a deal starting on the Trading section of the CarbonLimited website. For instance if you want to sell you need to put a message explaining the amount of permits available for you to sell and a possible price. If someone wants to buy your permits they will contact you by phone or email and you can negotiate the details of the trade. When you have agreed a deal the buyer will fill in a form on the Trading page and you will then confirm the deal.

Remember at the end of the year you will need to have enough carbon permits to cover your carbon emissions, tonne for tonne. There should be an extra trading day at the end of the year where you can sell your surplus permits, or if you’re not so fortunate buy extra permits.
